All You Should Know About Permanent Facial Hair Removal

So let’s talk. Sometimes peach fuzz isn’t so cute. Facial hair can often be annoying to deal with and can cause us to feel pretty insecure. When it comes to removing facial hair permanently, there are a couple of different ways to go about it. But what is the best option for your wallet?

You can try electrolysis, laser hair removal, or IPL. We’ll talk about all three of these and let you weigh your options.

Should I Get My Hair Removed Permanently?

If you’ve never gotten any hair permanently removed, you might be asking yourself this question. You should think it over before making a final decision. Once you do this, there is no going back.

If you want to get rid of some of your eyebrow hairs permanently because you think that they’re too thick, you won’t be able to grow them back later in life. Fads and trends change over time, so you never know what will be in style in 20 years.

If you want a less permanent solution, there are a few to choose from. You could try tweezing or waxing the hair. You can do this at home or have a professional do it. Tweezing and waxing both last longer than shaving does. If you want a more permanent solution because you’re tired of tweezing and waxing, here are a few options for you.

Laser Hair Removal For Facial Hair

Laser hair removal is one of the more common methods of hair removal. As the name suggests, it uses a laser to deliver energy to the hair follicle. This causes the melanin in your hair follicle to be absorbed. This will stop it from growing back eventually.

You’ll need to go for multiple sessions to get the desired results. You’ll need to be patient and consult with your doctor about timelines.

One of the things you should be aware of with laser hair removal is that it works best on people with darker hair. So if you have lighter hair, you might want to look into some other options. Don’t worry! We have alternatives for you.

Peach fuzz, as it’s usually called on your face, tends to be pretty light. So unless you are sporting some beard-like hair on your face, laser might not be best for this area. Talk to someone about what they think is best for your skin type and your hair type.

Laser hair removal can sometimes cause irritation on your skin and changes in the skin’s pigment. Rarely, it can even cause more growth in the area you were targeting. You should definitely make sure you go to a place that has a good reputation, so you don’t end up super hairy. Keep an eye on your progress if you get laser hair removal to make sure things are going smoothly.

After you get laser, you should wait about 24 hours before you go to the gym or a sauna. Your sweat could ruin the process, trust us.

Just An FYI

We thought we’d mention this just to be safe. If your hair keeps growing back even after multiple treatments, you should go see a doctor. It might be a symptom of a more serious condition like PCOS.

Also, if you get ingrown hairs from one of your treatments, you should try to keep it clean to avoid infections. Sometimes these can turn into cysts if they are left unattended.

Electrolysis For Facial Hair

Another option you can look into for removing facial hair is electrolysis. If you’ve never heard of this, we’re here to simplify it for you.  This process involves a probe and some tweezers that remove your hair.

Basically, the probe is used to get to the base of the follicle, and then using an electric pulse, they zap it. This can stop the hair growth, and then tweezers are used to remove that hair. You have to do this over and over because each probe targets only one hair.

Just like with laser, you’ll have to schedule multiple sessions. You might also experience some irritation afterward, but this is temporary.

Electrolysis is totally safe for your face, by the way. We know the process sounds scary, but electrolysis is often used to remove facial hair. It’s even approved by the FDA.

If you’re wondering how long the whole process might take, it’s anywhere from 10 to 20 months. But the good news is that each session is not particularly long, especially for a small area like your face. The results won’t be immediate, so you’ll need to hold out for that.

There isn’t a waiting period for resuming your normal activities after electrolysis. This is a major difference between laser and electrolysis.

The cost can be pretty high, though. Going in for multiple sessions might put a hole in your pocket, depending on how much you are budgeting for. Insurance usually doesn’t cover electrolysis (lame) because it’s not considered medically necessary. If you spend hundreds of dollars each time you go in for a session, you could end up spending thousands a year on facial hair removal.

Just like with laser, make sure your electrologist is a trusted professional. You don’t want someone who is inexperienced to be touching your face. This could be really dangerous for your skin. Do some research and make sure the person you are going to has a good reputation with their clients.

So if laser hair removal and electrolysis aren’t your top picks, what else is there? Well, we’re glad you asked.

IPL works on any skin type because of the way it is designed. You can have dark or light hair, and IPL will still be effective for you.

IPL is pretty painless, and it’s super safe for all your sensitive areas. You don’t even have to grow out your hair to use IPL technology. Your hair can be any length, which means no awkward phase.
