At Home Laser Removal Treatment: Step by Step Guide - Kenzzi

At Home Laser Removal Treatment: Step by Step Guide

Removing body hair is a process, and going to a salon where they offer this service can take a lot of time and money that many of us are not willing to invest. Luckily, there are at-home alternatives for removing hair that’s perfect for all of the craziness of 2020.

Hair Removal Options

There are a lot of different ways to remove hair. You’ve got laser hair removal, electrolysis, and IPL. While all of these methods produce similar results, the actual procedures are all very different. We’d like to note that there is no way to actually do laser treatment at home because this type of treatment can only be done professionally.

Don’t pull out your razor and despair, though! There are other options for at-home hair removal that are similar to laser. Let’s talk about IPL.

IPL At Home

So what is IPL? We’re glad you asked. IPL stands for intense pulsed light therapy. It’s a bit different from laser hair removal because there is no laser involved. Instead, a different kind of light energy with multiple wavelengths is used to absorb the melanin of your hair shaft. This stops the hair from being able to grow there over time.

You can use IPL devices like the one from KENZZI without being a licensed professional—cool, right? IPL has even been shown to hurt less than laser hair removal does. It can be tough to compare them, and it might have more to do with your pain tolerance than anything else, but we’ll take it. Usually, you’ll feel a warm tingle on your skin during the process but afterward is generally painless.

Much like laser hair removal, you’ll have to use the IPL handset a few times to get results. But the best part about doing it yourself is that it can be on your schedule. Don’t carve time out of your workday to go to a doctor’s office. Do an IPL treatment during your downtime at night or on the weekends, when you can relax and focus on doing it right.

IPL works great on facial hair too. It is gentle enough for your most sensitive areas because it works on any skin type, unlike laser hair removal.

Hair Growth Explained

If you’re looking to remove hair on your own, you should probably know how it works. Hair grows in a very specific way in three stages: anagen, catagen, and telogen. If you don’t know what these words mean, we’re here to explain.

The anagen phase comes first in the process. This is when your hair is actively growing. Your hair is still attached to the papilla, so this is the best stage to remove hair using laser techniques.

Next, we have the catagen phase, the shedding period for hair. This is not the best time for laser hair removal because it will only be partially effective, as you won’t be able to reach down into the follicle.

Last, there is the telogen phase. This is where the hair rests after being grown. Telogen is also not the ideal time for laser treatments.

A Step By Step Guide To IPL

The first thing you should do before using an IPL device is to clean the area that you want to remove hair from. Mild soap and water are your best bet so that you don’t risk irritating the skin with any harsh chemicals or fragrances. And don’t over scrub the area, or you might irritate it.

Shave the area you are planning on treating. Make sure to be gentle!

Next, you can pick the energy level you want to use on your skin. Most devices (including KENZZI) have multiple settings for you to choose from. People who are just starting should try a lower setting first and then work their way up once they know what works for them.

Use the IPL device at a 90-degree angle and use a circular motion for small areas or a gliding motion for larger areas. You can let the device do all the work for you.

Repeat this process every two weeks until you see the results that you desire.

For specific questions and concerns about using your IPL device, you can refer to the instructions in the box.

Things To Think About

Everyone has different needs for their skin. Before you decide to get IPL to remove your hair, you should consider a few factors. Think about your skin’s sensitivity and what your pain tolerance is like. You should also think about what kind of hair you want to remove. IPL is a gentler option for hair removal, so if you were on the fence before, this might bring you over.

You can avoid the side effects of cheap laser hair removal by using an IPL device. If you’re sick of messing with disposable razors and waxing is a pain (literally), KENZZI is for you.

How Safe Is It?

We know that removing hair yourself might seem scary. If you’re wondering if IPL is safe to use, there’s no need to worry! It’s totally safe, and you can use it on any part of the body that you want to remove hair on.

The side effects that come with IPL are very minimal. These side effects can sometimes lead to your skin becoming darker or lighter than it was before. This discoloration is usually temporary, though, so it’s not something to be overly concerned about.

If you hear wavelengths and think of radiation, don’t worry. Your IPL device is not going to give you cancer (*phew*).

What About Laser Hair Removal?

This is an option that has been around for many years. It is a professional level treatment that can be very costly. It uses a laser beam to pulse energy and target the melanin of the hair follicles. The heat from the laser damages the hair and prevents regrowth.

There are a few things you can’t do after getting laser hair removal. You cannot go to the gym or take a shower for at least a day. You should also avoid using retinol cream the days leading up to your treatment.

This is an option for permanent hair removal but you cannot do it at home. You will need to find someone who is licensed to do it and make several appointments. Sometimes laser hair removal can cause scarring and blistering in some cases.

If you decide to go to a laser hair removal location that offers cheap deals, you might get into some hot water. You might end up with someone who uses cheap equipment or someone who is not trained to perform the treatment correctly. If you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on laser hair removal treatments, at-home alternatives might be the way to go.

So if you really want a totally at-home way to remove hair, IPL is the way to go.

In Summary

If you want to keep your body hair, there’s no judgment here. It’s totally natural to have body hair. But if you are looking to get rid of it, there are many different ways to remove hair.

Some require professionals and others can be done yourself. Most at-home solutions are only temporary solutions, like waxing. If you are looking for permanent hair removal for your entire body, you should consider IPL.
